ASHRM’s 2017 President is Mike Midgley, RN, JD, MPH, CPHRM, FASHRM. He is serving on the Board of Directors for three years – as President Elect in 2016, President in 2017 and Immediate Past President in 2018. His term began on January 1, 2016.
With more than 25 years of experience in the healthcare industry, Midgley is vice president of Healthcare Risk Engineering for Swiss Re Corporate Solutions in New York where he shares his risk management and patient safety expertise with insured healthcare clients. Risk Engineering Services are a key part of the Swiss Re Corporate Solutions North American Healthcare team’s product offerings. Midgley is an experienced healthcare risk manager, nurse, insurance professional and New York-licensed attorney. He earned his Juris Doctor (JD) from Fordham, his Master of Public Health degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Rutgers.
Sharing his wealth of knowledge, Midgley is a clinical assistant professor at Stony Brook University School of Health Technology and Management where he teaches advanced practice for risk and safety officers in the Master of Science in Patient Safety Program. He has authored risk management articles, including education modules for the Nursing Spectrum Journal. He routinely provides risk management lectures locally, nationally and for international audiences.
